The Nigerian Student Fashion and Design Week (NSFDW) might have come and gone but anyone who was at the Indoor Sports Hall of the University of Lagos would bear testimony to the beauty, creativity and elegance that defined the event.
What kicked off with an empty runway and melodious tunes soon graduated into a potpourri of
designs, colour, creative variation and a fashion spectacle that was thrilling to watch and exciting to appreciate.
The exhibition of stylish designs with that remarkable touch of elegance and Afrocentric appeal that simply cannot be ignored reminded guests at the event that no matter how far the heart strays; a passion for the arts has a way of gravitating towards a crescendo of rebirth and emergence.
NSFDW was the first major student fashion week in Nigeria organised by BlackNBold Fashion House, Africa Fashion Week London and Mahogany International with 25 student and non student designers showcasing their various collections.
The event was supported by Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria (FADAN), One Stop Celebrations Fashion Institute, Zmirage Nigeria Limited
On Day 1 Friday June 7, Dupsy of Unilag FM anchored the night while Yemi Obamedo of Spice TV was the red carpet compere.
On Day 2, Saturday, June 8, Larry Foreman of Unilag FM was the host for the night.
In an interview with Marcus Ademodi, the Business Manager of BlackNBold Fashion House assured that the event would be an annual show adding that Nigerian student designers now have a unique platform to showcase what they do to a global audience.
The ‘Best Designer,’ Ayotunde Okubanjo would be showcasing for free at Africa Fashion Week London and was also presented with a brand new sewing machine from FADAN (Fashion Designers Association of Nigeria. ‘The Second Overall Best Designer,’ Adebimpe Adebambo would be showcasing for free at Fashions Finest London Fashion Week Show and the Best Male Designer, Klaus Uche Ume & Steven of Kuume collection will showcase for free at Just Fashion UK/Mister Africa International.
